How a camcorder can replace your social media habits
I’m diving into why I love using an old camcorder in 2024 instead of shooting on my phone to publish on social media. There's something special about capturing life’s simple, beautiful moments with a dedicated camcorder over a phone. From nostalgic dad cam vibes to the raw, unfiltered charm of Y2K style, these devices bring a unique touch to my memories.
I’ve been using this camcorder to document adventures with friends and family, moments that feel more genuine without the pressure of making something that will ever reach social media social media. I get it, ironically these home movies did make it to RUclips, but that's besides the point.
Remember to drop a like on your way out:)

I've been making RUclips videos since before RUclips was monetizable. This page originally began as a gaming channel called "The Siege Cinema" Where I made call of duty commentary videos, and gaming news related content. Over the years I sort of put my commitment to RUclips on the back burner to focus on my filmmaking career. Though I still made content, just never really had a direction or kne...

The lost art of handcrafted note taking has been replaced in our modern world by digital efficiencies. To me, it's hard to wrap my brain around a lot of these programs, and I wanted to re-introduce the subtle benefits of writing, journaling and thinking through ideas by hand. We often put a label that once we achieve the thing that we set out to get, that we'd be happy. But ultimately those of us that get to achieve our dreams recognize that we are no more happy than we were at the start. I was in a position where I got to get my dream job (making videos) for a dream company (Camper van builder). This combined my love of making videos with the subject matter that al...

We found ourselves out in California for a work assignment living out of a van as our home base. When it was time to head home, we needed to figure out how we were planning to do that. After a rough experience heading out west by train, and flying not being an option, we were sort of stranded out in California. Rental cars were hard to come by, so our first choice was a uhaul van. My problem is that streaming is really the most economical as many don’t pay for any of these services, yet have access to an account for everything from either a family member, partner, friend, etc. basically free at that point

    That is what people who were born in the 1980’s and 1990’s are like. 2010’s and 2020’s is way too early for streaming services. They should have Postponed all streaming services. Maybe we should ban all streaming services because changes like that are too extreme and too much radical.

    My local library is decently funded, so it has a 3D printer, Cricut cutter, sewing machine, wood engraver, seed library, musical instrument rental, board game checkouts…so many cool resources that people don’t know about! I really like this idea, I have always said that you can't film anything anymore without the thought of it being uploaded somewhere, which really does change the intention of the act to record, and how that act is then percieved, and how then others act in relation to that act. Home video like what we used to do.

    I absolutely love seeing people in their twenties who’ve only really known streaming embrace physical media. I was in my late teens when DVD came out and it was such an amazing format in terms of getting people to invest in physical copies of the films they loved. The picture quality wasn’t great by today’s standards but on a CRT TV it was leaps and bounds ahead of VHS. And the special features were always so much fun to dive into. It’s why I love labels like Arrow Video because they really celebrate the films with comprehensive special features for even obscure releases. Whereas streaming services just treat films like more grist for the mill.

    I find it interesting that you don't consider yourself a collector, but buy so much physical media and especially unseen stuff. Now, I love my physical media, but I'm very deliberate with purchases of physical media. Outside of rare instances, I won't buy anything I haven't already seen and that I know I will want to watch multiple times. I look at my physical media and my streaming services as complimentary. I can use streaming to watch my favorite TV shows without dropping a ton of money to buy multiple seasons physically and to watch new and interesting shows. Not to mention, it's much more rare to go back and rewatch 100+ episodes of a TV show than it is a 2-3 hour movie. I'd be curious to find out how many of those DVDs you have piled in those sleeves have been watched more than once......

      That’s a good call out. I guess collections come in waves for me. I definitely do not need every movie in there, but it’s a good library of diverse things that I know I enjoy. There’s certain genres I avoid cause I don’t think I’ll be into. But when I see movies I haven’t heard of before, it gets me super excited. And I do enjoy watching those.

They do a lot of charity work in the area, and I grew up watching Reading Rainbow, Sesame Street, Wishbone, CyberChase, and so many more because of them. They also do a lot to support local arts programs, and you can watch really solid documentaries, operas, and so much more through them. I'm pretty sure the vetting of information in books really... isn't any better than anywhere else. Anyone can write a book, fill it with their craziest opinions written as facts, and get it published. the main difference is that books are mostly advertised still by word of mouth; there's no algorithm at the library strategically placing controversial books on the front shelves in the hopes of drumming up engagement in the checkout line.

    • @NomadOverNormal
      @NomadOverNormal Месяц назад

      My point with the vetting is when someone writes a tweet or a blog, they send it instantly. At least with a book there are several months of your idea being crafted and reshaped and thought about. Then there’s typically editors who help work through various things like formatting and extra eyes on it
